Caring for Community Cats

How Our Volunteers Make a Difference

At Simba’s Pride, we go beyond just Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR). While TNR is a critical first step in helping feral cats, it’s only part of the picture. Feral cats rely on us for regular, nutritious meals—something they can’t get from scavenging alone. Despite what many believe, outdoor cats cannot survive long on mice or trash. They need proper food and care to stay healthy and thrive.

That’s where our amazing volunteers come in.

Every single day—rain, snow, or shine—our dedicated team feeds multiple feral cat colonies across the Denver area. Currently, we care for colonies in:

  • Commerce City (2 locations)
  • Littleton (3 locations)
  • Aurora (1 location)
  • Wheatridge (1 location)

Our volunteers are the heart of this effort. They provide:

  • Nutritious wet and dry food daily
  • Fresh, clean water every day
  • L-Lysine, an immune booster added to wet food to help keep the cats healthy
  • Winter shelters when possible, to keep the cats safe from the cold

Each feeding visit usually takes just 2–5 minutes (plus drive time), and Simba’s Pride provides the food as long as donations allow.

Want to make a direct difference? Join our volunteer team! Whether you can help once a week or once a month, your time means everything to the cats. Sign up here to volunteer.

But feeding is only part of the story. Regular caretakers also get to know the cats in each colony. If a cat seems unwell, is injured, or shows signs like excessive thirst (which could mean diabetes or kidney disease), our team can quickly step in. With help from our trappers and veterinary partners, we’re able to get cats the care they need.

One of the things that sets Simba’s Pride apart is our commitment to senior feral cats. We are one of the only organizations that pays for dental care for feral cats. As cats age, their teeth can become painful and worn down. Left untreated, this can lead to starvation—but with proper dental care and regular feeding, these cats can live happy, healthy lives for many more years.

Most trappers are faced with a heartbreaking choice: pay for a costly dental or euthanize the cat.

Thanks to our fundraising efforts and generous supporters, Simba’s Pride offers a third option: life. We’ve helped many feral cats receive dentals over the years—and they’re still thriving today.

Your donation helps save lives. From food and vet care to winter shelters and dental surgeries, every dollar counts. Donate now!

Whether you’re feeding, trapping, fundraising, or simply spreading the word—you’re part of something powerful.

Together, we’re giving feral cats the chance not just to survive, but to thrive.
